Coaching vs Mentoring

Coaching vs Mentoring

We interchangeably use the words “coaching” and “mentoring”. When educators talk of mentoring, they usually imply either coaching or deliberate practice. Both are distinct approaches with different goals and methods. “Coaching” is derived from sports and focuses on improving individual performance. “Mentoring” on the other hand, aims to unlock one’s hidden potential. Coaching is more cognitive and physical, while mentoring is emotional and spiritual.
